My personal Crossroads journey
Welcome to a very special part of CROSSROADS RETOLD, where I share my personal connection to the iconic Crossroads TV series. Discover how my journey with this beloved show began and what made it so special for me.

How my journey began
I began watching Crossroads in early 1974 when I was thirteen years old. I can't recall what made me watch it, perhaps my mum watched it and I just joined in. Anyway, I became a fan very quickly, mainly due to the appearance of Ronald Allen. Wow, I thought he was the most gorgeous man on the planet, closely followed by Donny Osmond. Teenage crush definitely which lasted way past my teens.
In my area (the Channel Islands) the series aired at 6.35pm so as my evening meal was at 6pm I guess it was a hurried affair on my part. I would hear that iconic ATV ident, then that intro music. There I sat engrossed in what was happening onscreen whilst trying to write, no, scribble my notes in longhand. Believe me there were times when I could hardly read my own writing! I think my parents must have thought I was quite barmy.
I watched avidly until 1985 when Ronald Allen and Sue Lloyd were written out. I loved all the characters and was sad when major characters were written out. Ronnie going was the last straw and I never watched another episode after he left.
Over the years Crossroads has definitely had a bad press; wobbly sets, ham acting and the rest. To me Crossroads was all that a soap opera should be, a period of the day where you could just escape and watch something light and entertaining, with no crime, sex or upsetting cbut it ontent. It seems that each time I watch Emmerdale or Coronation Street there is a warning about upsetting content. There is so much bad news in the world anyway that I don't really want to spend an hour of my life watching more. Crossroads tackled some serious issues in its day but it was done in an educational way and a more innocent way.
Well, I'm off my soapbox now! Nowdays I enjoy watching the DVDs which were released by Network DVD. I really can't thank Network enough for allowing me to relive those wonderful Crossroads memories. It is s shame some episodes are missing but at least we have some. The last wesbite I published suddenly disappeared; I can tell you I was gutted after spending many months writing up all my notes. So this is another attempt at re-doing this site. I hope you enjoy it and please feel free to leave your thoughts and your stories about Crossroads.
